January 2025 Newsletter
In Our Store
- Each new year brings changes and opportunities for our business and our customers. At the end of 2024 we said goodbye to two employees who were a standard of our business for many years.
- Augie Bade decided to slow down the pace of life a little and go into retirement. We would like to thank him for his dedication and service for 28 years. You will continue to see him around as he agreed to operate a fertilizer/spray truck until he wants to fully retire, or we find a suitable replacement. We will have an official retirement party in March or April 2025 depending on the best time for his family. We will make sure to update everyone throughout the store and in this newsletter as to when that will occur.
- After 12 years of being at DeWitt County Producers Carly Schons has decided to move on to another opportunity in life. Here dedication and commitment to our business and customers was easy to see. She started working here as a warehouse helper and you would continue to see her occasionally step back into that role when needed. When you see her around town, please tell her hello
- While we have not seen much chilly weather to speak of, we are inevitably going to experience that soon. Currently, we have a surplus of:
- Brooder Lamps $19.20/Each
- White Heat Bulbs $3.30/Each
- Red Heat Bulbs $8.20/Each
- We have a good supply of pipe insulation in assorted sizes. If you are still one of the holdouts, consider getting on the bandwagon of the FreezeMiser. This unique invention is designed to make freezing pipes and broken water lines a thing of the past. We have them available in a single pack $30.60/Each and double pack $57.50/2 pack.
- Below are some items to help keep yourself warm.
- Hand Warmers = $3.30/PackBeanies with a Light = $14.95/EachMr. Heater Single Burner Heater = $70.95/EachMr. Heater Double Burner Heater = $144.55/Each
In the Yard
- The recent rains have activated the wild ryegrass and winter grass that we typically see this time of year. The cooler weather has also brought along the winter weeds. If you find yourself not wanting to dig up those winter weeds, consider a few herbicides to help eliminate them.
- Fertilome Weed Free Zone = $47.90/Quart
- Bonide Weed Beater Ultra = $24.55/Pint
- 2-4-D Concentrate = $13.65/Quart
In the Pasture
- As we get closer to springtime, we will continue to think about fertilizer and spray for our pastures. This is a friendly reminder to get in your soil samples so we can help you determine what blend is best for you.
- The thistles have started to emerge and is making many of us ask “Can we get a break from the weeds?” If you are unwilling to wait for a freeze to knock them back, consider an application of 2-4-D at the rate of 1 QT/Acre. If you have clover in these areas and would like to keep it, consider an application of Duracor at the rate of 16oz/Acre.
- Depending on what the weather will do, consider making an application of Rezilon on your hay fields or pasture toward the middle to end of January. The application rate of 3oz/Acre should be used at this time. This application will help control native ryegrass and grassburs in your fields. When you have questions about application or timing, give us a call.
In the Animal Pen
- We have a good supply of Ranger Gate Hay Savers, Poly Hay Rings, Galvanized Hay Rings, and feed troughs available to help you with your fall feeding program. Stop and see what we have available.
- Consider adding a few Bloat Blocks in your pastures to help with the influx of winter grass.
In the Great Outdoors
- As deer season ends, it is a suitable time to take inventory and get everything in good working order before the next season. If you are one of the few who like to be prepared, consider getting a new deer feeder or extra parts, stop in the store and get you some.
- Now is a good time to consider starting a deer protein feeding program. If you have not considered this before, look at Purina Antlermax 20% Protein $13.25/Bag. Next month we will run specials on the feeders and feed if you need some time to consider.
- The recent rains have also renewed spirits about planting fall/winter cover crops. We do not have any oats left, but we have Gulf Ryegrass $40.15/50LB Bag and Nelson Ryegrass $46.60/50LB Bag on hand.

Manager’s Words
Each year we like to start with some goals for our organization. We continue to meet those goals and make sure they improve our interaction. As we continue to achieve these goals, we will make sure to update you.
- Improve our feed delivery schedule and efficiency.
- Make farm visits and give fertilizer/spray recommendations in a timelier manner.
We are excited about the year ahead and the changes that will come with that. We ask that you continue to help us find ways to improve our interaction and provide us with feedback.
Thank you for your business,
Willis Braden
