February 2025 Newsletter
In Our Store
- We have a Fish Day with Henneke Fish Hatchery of Hallettsville on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM. We have the order forms available at the store if you are interested.
- We have some new Garden Seeds available in the store if you have the itch to get your green thumb going. We should also have plants soon from Bonnie Plants.
- Customers have found out that we have seed potatoes. If you are still interested in planting some, we have Red and White available for $0.65/LB.
- We have a healthy supply of Hi Octate Supplement, Honor Show Feed, and tack. If you are loading up to go to a major show or county show, stop in and see us.
In the Yard
- Applying 15-5-10 yard fertilizer $19.30/40LB Bag is designed to give your yard an early green up. Make this application 2-3 weeks prior to your spring fertilizer for the best results.
In the Pasture
- Now is the time to start spraying for Thistles. The products to use are 2-4-D at the rate of 1 QT/Acre or Duracor at the rate of 16oz/Acre. It is best to spray them before they start growing past the rosette stage.
- Fertilizer and Spray cost continue to move around. It is a little premature to give pricing in this newsletter. Please check with the store in the next few weeks for updated pricing.
- If you want to start building your personal application schedule, it may be a good option to apply Roundup on your hay fields to target any weeds or undesirable grasses that are coming up. Depending on what the grass growth and thickness looks like, use 12-32oz of Roundup per acre. You want to do this prior to the Bermuda grass coming out of dormancy. If you have any questions or need some directions on this, please give us a call.
- Now is the time to start thinking about spraying Wolf Weeds. The best option for spraying around trees is 1 quart of Grazon Next/Acre. For areas with no trees, use 1 quart of Grazon P+D and 8oz of Tordon/Acre. Due to the nature of these plants, please use the Inergy Surfactant when making this application. If you have any questions, please call the store.
- We have shared the Corteva Ultigraz program in the past. Since it is early in the season, we wanted to share that again. This program involves coating dry fertilizer with herbicide to target your weeds as they are young, tender, and growing. The best-case scenarios for this application are:
- 1) You have a spray drift sensitive area surrounded by desirable trees or houses.
- 2) You intend to apply your fertilizer early in the season and making one application would save you time and money.
- 3) The area that you want to fertilize will not support a truck or buggy with spray booms.
- If you would like to discuss this as an option for you, give us a call.
- Many producers have asked about arial application of herbicides recently. We will share some options available and resources to help meet those needs in next month’s newsletter.
In the Animal Pen
- We mentioned last month adding Bloat Blocks to your pastures. We have a good supply in stock, stop in and grab you a few for $35.70/Each.
- We continue to recommend Purina Equine Senior if you have an aged horse or need to find a good consistent feed for your everyday work horse. This month, we will take $2.00/Bag off for the month of February.
- The cost of feed for the companion pets we love continues to increase. To help you out we are taking off $4.00/Bag of the 40LB Farm Cat Food this month. Come in and stock up!
In the Great Outdoors
Here are some thoughts if you are considering a deer protein feeding program this year.
- Purina Deer Dewormer $31.25/50LB Bag = Best recommendation is to put this in your feeder ONLY and let them eat the entire bag. Have a second feeding available 6-8 weeks after the first time.
- We have electric and gravity-fed protein feeders. All Seasons 600# Stand and Fill Electric Protein Feeder $793.00/Each, 300# Gravity Protein Feeder $412.80/Each, and 500# Stand and Fill Gravity Protein Feeder $562.00/Each.

Manager’s Words
We have decided to simplify ordering for our bulk feed customers and start making deliveries on Thursdays and Fridays. This is a goal we set for the year and figured it was a good plan to get in place before the completion of our feed mill. On the same note, our feed mill is making progress and is on schedule to complete in May/June. We will have some disruption in the feed made at the store, but will keep everyone updated on that schedule.
Please make sure to call the store and get on our list for fertilizer and spraying. We are sure to have another busy year if the precipitation continues.
Thank you for your business,
Willis Braden
