June 2024 Newsletter

In Our Store

  • IT IS SUMMERTIME! View our “What is Coming Up in Our Area” section if you are looking for some fun and entertaining options for your kids or grandkids.
  • Bugs are on the move around our homes and buildings. If you are looking for a cost efficient and easy way to spray bugs, we have a good option for you. Bio Advanced Complete Insect Killer is a one gallon ready-to-use spray. It provides double protection for inside and outside use. They are priced to move at $10.00/1 Gallon Jug.
  • We consistently get questions about Red Ants and what is the best option for killing them. Most people use Surrender (The Smelly Stuff) and get frustrated at the results. If you are looking for a better bait that they take down into the mound, consider Amdro Ant Block $17.30/24oz Jug and Extinguish $64.30/4.5LB Jug.
  • The DeWitt County Crops Tour is coming up. This annual event will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. The event provides updates on chemicals, farming changes, and new farming strategies. The event starts at 3:00PM at Gruenau Hall and will provide a BBQ Meal at the end of the tour. The event will provide 3 CEU credits for license holders. Please RSVP with the DeWitt County Extension Office at 361-275-0816.

In the Yard

  • If you do not like snakes get you some Snake-A-Way $16.60/Bag or Bonide Snake Stopper $16.85/Jug. These products are good to apply around the perimeter of your yard or popular family gathering areas. Please remember that their effectiveness will diminish over time and as it gets rained upon.
  • This is a suitable time to make another application of a pre-emergent herbicide on our yards. This will help with the late flush of flowers, dove weeds, and grass burrs that typically appear. The products we have are: Barricade ($31.05/50LB Bag) use 3#/1000 SQ FT, Dimension ($34.90/35LB Bag) use 3.5#/1000 SQ FT to combat broadleaf and grassy weeds, and Balan ($42.80/40LB Bag) use 1.5#/ 1000 SQ FT to combat grassy weeds.

In the Pasture

  • If you have a need to get your mesquite sprayed, we are getting close to that window of application. We need to be looking for dark green leaves and an elongated bean of 7-10”. This is normally around July 4th. The chemical combination that we recommend the most is 28oz Sendero, 8oz Remedy, Surfactant $59.23/Acre (Includes Application). If you need us to come look at your brush, give us a call.
  • If you made the early season application of Rezilon for grass burr control, now is the time to make that second application. The best situation is after a hay cutting or when the grass is grazed short. The rate of application again is (3oz/Acre) $45.02/Acre including application.
  • Now is the time to make an application of Chaparral Herbicide for the treatment of Dewberries. If you have them in your pasture, use 3.3oz/Acre for a broadcast application or 6.6oz/100 Gallons for spot treatment. Please make sure the plants have dropped their fruit and a crop oil surfactant like Inergy is used. You can also add Tordon for an additional punch.
  • If we go though a period of dry time followed by a period of rain, be on the lookout for Grass Burrs. If you start to see the plant, make sure and use 1oz of Pastora per acre on your application.

In the Animal Pen

  • We know it is a little early for people to be in the full swing of Show Cattle Season, but we have a deal for you this month. We are running a special on Honor Show Chow Full Range Cattle Feed. This month, we will discount it by $3.00/50LB bag bringing it down to $15.10/Bag. This is a great feed if you have a Show Calf, Butcher Calf or a cow you are nursing back to health. Stop in and grab a few bags.
  • Fly Season is upon us! While it would have been best to start a few months ago with Fly Control Products, it is never too late. This month, we are discounting our Wind & Rain Mineral W Fly Control (Gold Bag) by $2.00/Bag. Do your cattle a favor and help them with the flies.
