May 2025 Newsletter
In Our Store
If you have been to the store lately you have noticed there is a lot of moving and shaking going on.
- We are completing the final touches on the expansion of our loading dock. When our current building was erected in 1989, forklifts were a mere and distant dream. This expansion will provide safer loading conditions and less damage to your tailgates and our facility.
- Our feed mill is also in the final half of its completion. With this change, it is necessary for us to close it down for the rearranging and rewiring of equipment. This shift will occur in the second week of May. The expectation is this closure will last 4-6 weeks if there are no major issues. This will bring a disruption to some of the products that we currently make. We are planning to stockpile some items in advance to accommodate this closure, but it will likely not be enough to meet popular demand. The products that this will affect are:
- DeWitt Creep 50LB Bag (Consider Purina Stocker Grower 14% in either ¼” or 3/8” Pellets)
- Dewitt 1-3 Salt Meal 50LB Bag (We intend to carry a comparable option from Purina)
- DeWitt 1-2 Salt Meal 50LB Bag (We intend to carry a comparable option from Purina)
- Accuration 80/20 50LB Bag (We intend to carry a comparable option from Purina)
- Ground Corn 50LB Bag (Consider Corn Chops)
- Cottonseed Meal 50LB Bag (Consider Cottonseed Cake)
We have found ways to source our 50LB Bags of Shelled Corn and bulk feed mixes. We will contact our customers who use our bulk feed mixes to ensure a plan to maintain your feeding program. If you have any questions, please let us know.
In the Yard
We are in the season that everyone dreads each year, MOSQUITO SEASON! If you intend to be outside for extended periods of time, consider the options below to help keep those pesky insects away.
- Spartan Mosquito Eradicator = $18.55/Each (Create a mosquito free zone around your house or family hangout area)
- Mosquito Pro Yard Spray =$17.30/Each (Great for spraying an area before a family event, provides control for up to 60 Days)
- Repel Sportsman Spray = $7.70/Each (Great to keep in your truck or ATV)
- Spartan Go Body Spray = $4.65/Each (Great to keep in your purse or travel bag)
- Cutter Backwoods Spray = $8.00/Each (Sweat Resistant Formula designed to help the rugged outdoorsman)
- Mosquito Dunks = $10.60/Each (Great for bird baths or standing water around our yards)
In the Pasture
- Fertilizer demand continues to be strong with the recent rains. This demand has created an increase in some of the key ingredients for our blends. We have adjusted prices on some blends and products already with more to come. Please understand that we are trying to minimize this increase but is a necessary change to make. If you have any questions, please let us know.
- We normally recommend that you increase the chemical rate used on our pasture at the end of May. This year will be no different. Consider the rate change on the products below:
- – Grazon Next – 24oz Up To 1 Quart
- – Duracor – 16oz Up To 20oz
- – Chaparral – 2oz Up To 3.3oz
- We are also in the time to consider an application of Herbicide to kill Dewberry Vines. I know everyone just grabbed their chest thinking, who would do such a thing. These vines have some great fruit, but for some they create a thick mat in pastures where cattle will not graze. If you have this issue, consider an application of Chapparal Herbicide to kill the plants. If you are spot spraying them, use 6.6 OZ per 100 Gallons of water plus surfactant. If you are making a broadcast application use 3.3 OZ per acre plus surfactant. We should be making this application, right after the fruit is no longer present on the plants. You can add 1 Quart of Tordon per acre if you have a license to increase the activity.
In the Animal Pen
With the conditions of our pastures changing with the approach of summer, now is the time to start or continue a strong mineral program. To encourage this important piece of the puzzle, we will discount each of the minerals below by $5.00/50LB Bag for the month of May. Depending on what the weather does, consider one of the options below.
- Wind & Rain Red Mineral – This standard bearer mineral is proven and tested to provide the nutritional supplement your cattle need to be in their best shape.
- Wind & Rain Gold Mineral – This unique mineral provides the nutritional supplement your cattle need along with the added feature of fly control for your cattle. When fed properly, it can help minimize the flies around your cattle by breaking their lifecycle. It will take some time for its effectiveness to kick in. Get started now!
- Gulf Coast Mineral – This unique mineral is designed to provide your cattle with the nutritional supplement they need for our Gulf Coast Region. It was specially designed to remove the sulfates that normally make loose minerals taste bitter to cattle. If you catch yourself saying, my cattle will not eat loose mineral, give this one a try.
We have some older inventory of Cottonseed Cake that we need to get out of the warehouse. We will discount all current inventory by $2.00/50LB Bag. This sale will end when the current inventory is gone.
- Starting the month of May, we will go back on contract for some of our more popular Purina Feeds. Keep an eye out for these changes.
In the Great Outdoors
