October 2026 Newsletter
In Our Store
- At the end of August, the Purina Plant in Gonzales was damaged due to high winds. This damage affected the way they can move feed around the plant, resulting in no feed being made there. They estimate the plant will be back up and running at the end of October. This has created challenges with having feed on hand and the quality of the feed. We do not like that this is the situation, but there is not much that we can do. They are shipping feed out of other plants to manage the situation as soon as possible. We appreciate everyone being patient through this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
- This month we will hold our annual Purina Flocktober Days October 15th-17th. During these days we will have special sales and giveaways on the popular chicken feeds we carry including Purina Layena Pellets, Purina Layena Crumbles, Purina Scratch Grains, and Purina Farm to Flock Layer Textured Feed.
- We will start a new Fall Feed Contract with Purina this month. This will affect our popular feeds below.
–Purina 20% Cubes -DeWitt 20% Cubes
-Calling Cubes 14% -Purina 3/8” and ¼” Creep
-Purina Precon -Ranchhand Sweet Feed
This contract will also affect our 20% Purina Bulk Cubes, bulk Purina Accuration Feed Mixes, and Purina Accuration 32-10 Liquid. Please check with us to see what other popular feeds are affected.
- On Friday, October 23, 2026, we will have a Fish Day here at the store. Henneke Fish Farm from Hallettsville will be here to help you restock your tanks and ponds. Please see details in the store or ask the girls at the front for order forms.
In the Yard
We are in a good window for making an application of preemergent herbicides. Reminder that these will only affect the plants that try to come up from seed and not the plants that already exist. If you need help with the plants that are already up, please come and ask some questions.
- Barricade Preemergent (50LB Bag) Covers 16,000 SQFT = $31.60/Each
- Dimension Preemergent (35LB Bag) Covers 10,000 SQFT = $35.20/Each
- Balan Preemergent (40LB Bag) Covers 13,000 SQ FT = $45.90/Each
In the Pasture
- Now is a suitable time to start thinking about getting soil samples. Getting them complete this time of year ensures a timely turn around along with sufficient time to make the applications needed for good spring results. Samples this time of year can provide direction about Ag Lime Applications along with Phosphorus and Potash Applications needed. Please bring us your dirt!
- Our business is not immune to the higher cost of daily life. The fuel cost has affected the way we operate our trucks and the price that we charge for making applications. Going forward we will charge $12.00/Acre for the application of herbicides and fall cover crops. We look forward to the day of lower diesel cost which will allow us to make the application cost cheaper.
- Even though things are still dry, our wet times will come along. Here are the fall seeds that we still have available.
– TAM 411 Oats = $24.66/50LB Bag -Purple Top Turnip = $1.95/LB
– Nelson Ryegrass = $39.04/50LB Bag -Gulf Ryegrass = $33.55/50LB Bag
In the Animal Pen
- We received a new shipment of Purina Accuration Hi Fat Tubs for $10.00 OFF/200 LB Tub for the entire month. Stop in and grab a few.
- As part of our Flocktober Days we are going to extend some specials for the entire month for those who LOVE their chickens. This month we are going to discount all these feeds by $2.00/Bag.
