September 2023 Newsletter

In Our Store

  • With the launch of our new website and an aggressive search campaign, we have seen more customers looking for information and services that we provide. Part of our campaign is to get reviews of our business. Here is a link if you would like to leave us a positive review. Type or Click  https://g.page/r/CTIZ9bPDcUQ9EBE/review
  • We will start emailing out our monthly newsletter using the platform of Constant Contact. If it looks different, please do not freak out.
  • The month of September starts the beginning of a new hunting season. If you need a new license, stop in the store for your renewal. Please make sure to have your old license or your driver’s license
  • Farmers and Ranchers have seen their way of life consistently come under regulation and pressure. There will be a vote on November 7, 2023, to protect the Right to Farm and Ranch in Texas. This bill will protect all farmers and ranchers no matter how big or small, ensure Texans have safe and affordable food, and protect the environment and animal welfare.  PLEASE PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR AND MAKE SURE TO VOTE.

In the Yard

  • Now is the time of year that Hummingbirds start to move out for the winter. If you want to give them a little extra energy for the journey, we have a variety of feeders and nectar to attract them.
  • The fall months can also bring the presence of Sod Webworms. The best indication of their presence is small white moths flying around your yard. The best treatment is an application of insecticide 3 times in the course of 2 weeks. Products available for the application are Bifen IT $33.45/QT Concentrate and Cyonara $18.25/QT Concentrate. The best recommendation is to alternate the chemical used in the application.

In the Pasture

  • Many Dove Weeds have received the necessary drops of rain to bring them back to life or make them start to grow again. If you do not want to see them, we recommend using (2-4-D = 1 Quart/Acre), (Grazon P+D = 1 Quart/Acre) or (Duracor = 20oz/Acre). If they are already over knee height it may not be worth spraying them. If you need us to help you make that judgement call, please let us know.
  • Future rains can bring a lot of relief and some potential problems. When you have the combination of warmer weather and fresh grass, it is the perfect environment for Army Worms. Be vigilant and keep an eye out for them. If you have a need to treat Army Worms, consider either Lambda-CY EC 3oz/Acre (Provides NO Residual Control) and Vantacor 1oz/Acre (Provides Residual Control). If you need us to make the application, please let us know.
  • Depending on the condition of Huisache and Rosehedge plants, it will be time to make an application of herbicide toward the end of this month. Check the plants for any drought stress or insect damage prior to making the application. The plants should have a dark green color and good leaf coverage. The options that typically work well on Huisache are 1 Quart Grazon Next/1 Quart Tordon $47.99/Acre (Includes Application), 36 oz. of Invora $65.84/Acre (Includes Application) and 1.5 Quarts Grazon Next $33.72/Acre (Includes Application). The best option for Rosehedge is 3.3oz Chaparral and 1QT Tordon $57.00/Acre (Includes Application). If you need us to come and look at the plants, please let us know.
  • We are receiving our fall seeds. Please let us know if we need to hold some for you. We do not plan on ordering a lot of extra seeds.

Manager’s Words

It is an interesting time! We are at a critical point of needing rain and the fall season arriving. We will be going on a new contract with Purina at the end of September. Hopefully the tides will change, and we will be blessed with favorable weather and reasonable feed prices. If we can help give you guidance and direction on your land and animal goals, let us know.

Thank you for your business,

Willis Braden
