In the Yard

Things are progressing earlier than normal this year. It is time to start looking at our fall yard treatments and preemergent herbicides.

  • Now is the time to start thinking about getting your yard healthy for next spring. The fertilizer available to help the root system of your yard is Jonathan Green Winterizer 10-0-20 for $21.25/15LB Bag.
  • This is a suitable time to make another application of a pre-emergent herbicide on our yards. This will help with early fall weeds that are sure to come along. The products we have are Barricade ($31.05/50LB Bag) use 3#/1000 SQ FT, Dimension ($34.95/35LB Bag) use 3.5#/1000 SQ FT to combat broadleaf and grassy weeds, and Balan ($43.55/40LB Bag) use 1.5#/ 1000 SQ FT to combat grassy weeds.

In the Pasture

  • The Huisache are healthy and living their best life. Once the plants stabilize from the recent rains, you have the green light to start spraying. You should look for a plant with good leaf coverage, consistent dark green color (even at the end of the limbs) and a ground temperature above 75 degrees. If you need us to look at your place, let us know. If you want to do it yourself… Broadcast mixing rate is 3 pints of Grazon Next HL plus surfactant with 20 gallons of water per acre. If you choose to individually treat each plant, you can use a 1% solution of Grazon Next HL per gallon of water, plus surfactant. This should equate to 1.3 OZ of Grazon Next HL per gallon of water. If you do not have an applicator license, you can use 1.3 OZ Sendero per gallon of water, plus surfactant. You want to use 1/3 OZ surfactant per gallon of water.
  • If you are interested in fall cover crops, please make sure and get on our list for seeds. Here is what we will have available this year:
    •  TAM 411 Oats $25.92/50LB Bag
    • Nelson Ryegrass $46.36/50LB Bag
    • Gulf Ryegrass $38.45/50LB Bag
    • Purple Top Turnips $1.54/LB.

  • Purina Cottonseed Cubes 38% are a good source of protein for when the quality of the grass diminishes. This month we are taking $3.00/Bag off.
